Alex Cumming and Nicola Beazley’s ‘Winter Warmer’ show for December

Alex Cumming and Nicola Beazley are doing a winter mini-tour this December, creating an evening full of seasonal cheer, suitable for all the family – perfect for village halls to arts centres.  It is called ‘A Winter Warmer’  and it recreates the idea of a Northumbrian ceilidh, where there is a real mix of singing, playing and dancing. They’re also planning on looking at some local traditions wherever they play and incorporate element of local history and tradition into the evening  – or even creating a separate session on this if there was lots of  interest.

Alex Cumming (The Teacups) & Nicola Beazley (The Rosie Hood Band) are an exciting and established English Box & Fiddle duo performing rip-roaring traditional choruses and toe-tapping tunes and boundary pushing self-penned material. Regulars on the folk scene in England, and having performed and taught and many of the biggest folk festivals in England, from Sidmouth and Broadstairs, to Whitby and Gate To Southwell, from Downend folk club and the legendary Greennote in London, the duo have also embarked on two tours in the USA and Canada. Performing also as a compact and dynamic ceilidh band, the pair are regulars at the Cecil Sharp House, and have received fantastic reviews of their instrument and singing workshops as well as their academic presentations.

All of their energy will be to the fore in these evenings – the two of them alone  sing all the songs, play the tunes, call the ceilidh dances – and even bring their own PA where required. The  evening runs in concert format to start – then tables and chairs are pushed aside to create a dance space and everyone will be welcome to join in.  It will be an evening suitable for all the family – and can also be adapted  to being an afternoon or early evening event specifically  for families with young children.
